Vision and Hearing The Jersey County Health Department receives a small grant form the Illinois Department of Public Health each year that enables us to do a vision and hearing screening on all preschool children three years of age or older in private educational programs or licensed childcare facilities. If the child fails our screening twice, a letter is sent to the parent explaining the problem. The letter requests the parent take their child for further evaluation. In 2001, the Lion's Club of Jerseyville purchased a new Titmus II Vision screening machine for the Jersey County Health Department. This replaced a 25-year-old machine. Financial assistance is also available from the Lion's Club to purchase reconditioned hearing aids and new eyeglasses for those who are unable to purchase them.
