ACCESS ASSISTANCE
The Family Caregiver Resource Center

Through the Access Assistance grant, the Family Caregiver Resource Center will provide information and resource material for informal caregivers of persons 60 or older and to grandparents or other older relatives raising grandchildren. This service is part of a nation-wide network of support to family caregivers, made possible with funds available through the
Area Agency on Aging for Lincolnland, Inc.

People caring for an older adult often do not think of themselves as caregivers, but studies show that 1 in 4 households in the United States is involved in caring for an older person. Caregivers may provide care to someone who is living in the same home, or to someone who lives in another home. Caregiver/client input is encouraged in this program. Caregiving ranges from assisting with bill paying or grocery shopping to full time, 24-hour per day care. It is estimated that there are 25 million caregivers in the United States.

Through the Access Assistance grant, the Family Caregiver Resource Center will provide a place where caregivers can turn for information and assistance in accessing services to meet their caregiving needs. Interested caregivers may contact the resource center and request a Caregivers Guide, a booklet that will help identify and organize information that is necessary for effective caregiving.

For more information contact Karen Schroeder, RN, at the Jersey County Health Department at 618-498-9565.

NOTE: Clients are allowed to contribute to the cost of this service.
