Teen Pregnancy Prevention

The goal of the Teen Pregnancy Prevention-Primary (TPP-P) grant
is to reduce the incidence of teen pregnancy by:

- Providing age appropriate and accurate reproductive health education to boys and girls ages 13-19;
- Providing youth development opportunities in the community;
- Increasing public awareness concerning the impact of teen pregnancy.

To reach these goals, involvement is needed from parents, community organizations, community leaders, teens, and other individuals concerned about this issue. The TPP-P grant requires an advisory group composed of individuals from these groups be established. JCHD has an advisory group and is always interested in recruiting new members for the group. More information about the TPP-P Advisory Group is available by calling (618) 498-9565, ext. 334.

TPP-P grant funds have allowed JCHD to purchase audio and print materials to help parents and others talk to preteens and teens about reproductive health. The audio materials can be checked out for brief periods of time. Print materials are available at no cost and cover abstinence, STI's, HIV, birth control, puberty and other topics. To request these materials, call 618-498-9565, ext. 334.

Additional information on teen pregnancy is available on the Teen Talk web page. Web links related to the topic of teen pregnancy prevention and teen health are available on the page. The page is not just for teens but is also for parents and others who care for teens.

Funding for the Teen Pregnancy Prevention-Primary Grant is provided by the Illinois Department of Human Service.
