Eligibility criteria for the H1N1 vaccine has expanded to include all individuals age 6 months and older.


H1N1 influenza vaccine
is strongly recommended to reduce morbidity and mortality from pandemic influenza A (H1N1) 2009 virus infection.

Jersey County Health Department is giving vaccine free of charge. Persons may also contact their doctor to receive the vaccination as it becomes available.

 
 

Two forms of vaccine are available: live (intranasal) and inactivated (injectable).

Intranasal live vaccine cannot be given to the following groups and therefore they
need the injectable (inactivated) vaccine:

  • Pregnant women

  • Children less than 2 years or 50 years and older

  • Long-term health problems such as heart disease, lung disease, asthma, kidney or liver disease, metabolic disease such as diabetes, and anemia or other blood disorders.

  • Children age 2 - 4 with asthma or one or more episodes of wheezing during the past year.

  • Anyone with certain cognitive, muscle or nerve disorders.

  • Children or adolescents through age 18 on long-term aspirin therapy.

  • Anyone with a weakened immune system.

To receive the nasal spray (live vaccine), persons must be
age 2 through 49 years who do not have underlying health conditions.
